Shaving is a very important part for a man\'s daily grooming regime. Having a beard can be a sign of uncleanliness and may make you appear older than you look, although sometimes they can be attractive and a sign of maturity. Shaving is a very important part for a man's daily grooming regime. Having a beard can be a sign of uncleanliness and may make you appear older than you look, although sometimes they can be attractive and a sign of maturity. The majority of men choose to use manual razors due to their cheapness and convenience, so in this article i will talk about the best technique for shaving with a manual razor.

Many people underestimate how powerful high quality products can be for your shave. With a manual razor it is always best to use a gel or lotion to protect and hydrate the skin - I personally find the 'king of shaves' product range to work best, although they can be fairly costly, I especially love the fragrance that the products contain. When choosing the shaver it is always best to use a razor with as many blades as possible - the more blades that there are, the closer the shave will be. An electric razor is up to personal preference, some men find it to be more painful and too harsh on sensitive skin while others find it to cut a closer shave due to the motion of the blades which also results in a more even shave.

Start off by washing your face thoroughly to remove any dirt or bacteria, then begin applying your chosen product to your beard (make sure that you apply it evenly) - try not to use too much as it can clog up the razor and waste expensive product (a little can go a long way). It is again up to personal preference whether you want to shave with the grain or against the grain, the grain refers to the direction of hair growth - I prefer to shave the upper part of my beard (above the jawline) with the grain, while shaving the lower part of my beard (below the jawline) against the grain. An additional tip is to pull your skin taut with your other hand as this may help to create a closer shave. Always make sure that you wash off the hair within the razor with warm water to ensure all the blades are free. After your shave you should feel around your face to determine whether areas of facial hair are not short enough.

I recommend changing your razor every two to three months to prevent shaving with a blunt razor.
