What do the common symptoms of someone suffering from exhaustion look like? Perhaps you are worried that you're suffering from it. Perhaps you are worried about someone close to you who may be showing signs of deep exhaustion. So, what do they look like?
If you are suffering from exhaustion, you feel completely run down. You're ability to motivate yourself are minimal.
Common symptoms of exhaustion:
- Mild depression - there isn't a lot to look forward to. It's not a question of feeling suicidal but rather you can't really muster the energy to get interested or excited in things going on in your life. It's more of not having the energy to want to plan future activities or events. You just can't get very motivated to shape your life into something fun.
- Perturbed sleep - you want to sleep a lot, especially through the day and your nights don't feel very restful. You notice that you toss and turn a lot throughout the night and you find it difficult to get out of bed in the morning, mainly because you aren't feeling very rested. Strangely enough, whether you are exhausted from prolonged intense physical labor or you're mentally drained due to a certain emotion, the body cannot seem to recuperate properly for the very thing it is lacking: proper rest.
- Diminished focus - you lose your train of thought regularly. You often drift off in mid-sentence and can't seem to pick up the thread. When the mind is exhausted, it cannot stay focused very well. Other difficulty in focusing when suffering from exhaustion is while reading a book, watching a movie or any task that asks your mental energies to be alert.
- Loss of Motivation - motivation takes energy. It takes that constant and steady flow of desire and willpower. Both of these are sabotaged when you are suffering from exhaustion.
- Drop in Appetite - you don't really crave much of your favorite foods. There is a drop in the desire to eat.
- Feeling Emotionless - you're not quite feeling numb but generating large doses of emotions is just not possible when you are suffering from exhaustion. It's not that you don't care, it's just that you can't generate that kind of energy.
While these common symptoms of suffering from exhaustion look similar to depression, the difference is that when you are suffering from exhaustion, desire and hope can be sparked in you with some extra rest and relaxation, a little extra dose of fun and a diet of extra vitamins and being outdoors. Depression on the other hand, is more about getting your power back from whatever situations in life that are keeping you from living the life you know you were meant to live.
