Muscles, bones and joints are most susceptible to injuries, leading to the commonly held misconception that they are the main causes of physical pain. They may well be the source of pain, but not the cause of all pain. The causes of pain run deeper than the injury.

Muscles, bones and joints are most susceptible to injuries, leading to the commonly held misconception that they are the main causes of physical pain. They may well be the source of pain, but not the cause of all pain. The causes of pain run deeper than the injury.
Muscles
There are two types of muscles---voluntary and involuntary. Muscles, because of their ability to relax and contract, create all body movements.
Voluntary muscles are those that move the limbs under conscious mind directions by means of the nervous system. These instructions or messages travel back and forth from the nervous system to the limb and from the limb to the nervous system.
Involuntary muscles are the organs such as the heart and digestive tract that are not under the management of the conscious mind. Disorders of both muscle types have been widely blamed as sources of physical pain.
When a muscle is suddenly over-stretched by vigorous action, some muscle fibers may tear. People who are active in sports are particularly susceptible to pulled muscles. This causes the whole muscle to contract, accompanied by swelling because of internal bleeding. The main symptoms of a pulled muscle are pain, tenderness, swelling and dysfunction, until the torn fibers are healed.
A pulled muscle is expected to fully recover. The suggested conventional treatment is to use ice packs to decrease pain and swelling. The injured body part is immobilized by bandages or strapping to support it. Depending on the severity, your doctor may prescribe painkillers, muscle relaxants or both. You may be advised to use crutches for the leg, a sling for an arm injury and even to get plenty of bed rest. Later, it will be recommended that you have physical therapy, including a graduated exercise program to restore strength and motion.
Bones
Bones are living structures. They are made up of living bone cells embedded in a hard framework of mostly calcium, phosphorus and other minerals. The bones act as storage and supply facilities for minerals. But inside some bones are soft-core marrows that produce all of your red blood cells, platelets and most of your white blood cells.
The skeletal bones serve mainly as a support system for various parts of the body. They also encase and protect organs. Disorders such as fractures and bone infections or osteomyelitis can be implicated as sources of physical pain.
Joints
Within your torso there are many joints, the movements of which are important to the functioning of the lymphatic system and the internal organs. Joints can be connective fibers joining bones together such a sutures of the skull. Joints are also 'hinge-like' structures between neighboring bones that allow the bones to move in relation to each other.
The knee is a hinge joint that permits movement in only one direction, backwards. There is more than one type of joint in your body. Each vertebra (backbone) of your spine can move only slightly in relation to each other. This allows you enough flexibility to bend your spinal column in multiple directions.
Another type is a 'ball and socket' joint, an example being the shoulder and hips. The ball and socket joint allows movement in more directions, including bending, twisting and rotating.
Other than the sutures, each joint is bound together on the outside by fibrous bands or ligaments. Inside these ligaments is a fibrous joint capsule. Inside the joint capsule lies a thin membrane (synovium) that continues to produce small amounts of fluid to lubricate the joint.
The joints where the bone ends meet the bony surfaces are made up of flexible and smooth cartilage. Sprains and dislocations are thought of as chief sources of physical joint pain.
The ability of your joints to undergo compression, elongation and separation determines the amount of stiffness and rigidity in your body. The joints get restricted first, followed by muscle stiffness. The insufficiency of joint movement leads to muscle immobility, which leads to further muscle rigidity.
When you get pain in a muscle, bone or joint, much of the familiar advice you hear and read is partially, if not totally incorrect. The truth is often just the opposite of what you have been told. When it comes to getting people out of pain, modern medicine still uses the same procedures that have never worked. They continue to use them and hope that this time they will get different results.
That is why an energetic technique that goes beyond modern medicine is needed to get to the source of pain----a technique that tests for weaknesses of the mind- body-spirit is preferable. When the specific weakness that is causing the pain is pinpointed, the pain disappears.
If the reason which you are given for your pain does not make your pain better on the spot, the reason is incorrect. The right answer has its own energy to make the situation better. That is how you know you have identified the true source of a pain---by the results. A good energetic technique stands on its results.
