How To Have A Makeshift Sauna

It is a wonderful addition to any home to have a sauna in the bathroom. There are so many choices as to how to go about it.

At first a makeshift sauna can be a good thing. This way you can find out whether you want to proceed to a more sophisticated one. So before installing a permanent elaborate sauna you can try a kind of sauna which is very small and for one person only. It has a seat in it and you sit down and zip up the sauna until only your head it sticking out. This heats electrically and gives you a good sweat and relax. You then unzip yourself, shower, cool down and go again.

If this makeshift sauna makes you want something more there also is a self standing unit which can accommodate about two people and can fit in the corner of the bathroom. This obviously is not an ideal permanent solution but all that is required is somewhere to plug it in and it will heat and furnish a nice sweat for you and one more. You can then take advantage of your own shower and bathroom facilities before going back in for the second dose.

These are easy makeshift saunas which can give you a taste for what you could have if you decide to expand your sauna experience.

It depends a lot on what use you plan to make of your sauna. It can vary from very private to very public. Before you embark on adding a more complicated and/or larger sauna to your bathroom there are several things that you need to consider.

Sauna Use

Do you plan to have the sauna only for your personal use with the possibility of including some or all of the family? Or do you want to have a sauna which is large enough to from time to time have a selection of your friends join you.

There are so many reasons for taking a sauna. It all depends on what you want from it and whether you are comfortable with your choice. When you add it to your bathroom it is unlikely that you will change it. So it is vital that you decide first and foremost what you are planning to do with it during the years to come.

Private Sauna

If you intend for the sauna to be only for you and your immediate family and/or very closest friends then you really can add a sauna to your bathroom at a very modest expense. In your bathroom you will have all the things you need except the unit itself. You will have a shower which can be either hot or cold. You likely will have a bathtub which can be used as a plunge pool even though it won't be as cold as you might desire, it will still be chilly and have more or less the same effect.

So you need only to add a small sauna unit to your bathroom or adjacent to it and you are in business.

Not So Private Sauna

If you envisage having a large enough unit to accommodate your family and some of your best friends you will need to consider not only the size of the unit but also the facilities that are associated with it.

Personally I prefer a separate unit in the back yard. I like the idea of having a cottage which will contain a rather large sauna with three or four levels as well as shower and plunge pool facilities. It will also need a lounge kind of place for relaxation and recovery.

My preference is a naturist sauna. I think there is no experience like having a wonderful series of sauna baths without any clothes or towels to get between me and the wood as it heats. I find that the relaxation, stress relief, other worldliness and total escape from reality best lying in the sauna naked and ready to go to that space that cannot be found in any other way.

Conclusion

Obviously there are many versions and ways to add a sauna to your home. It can range from the addition of a small and compact unit to your present bathroom to an entire building containing a complex setup in your backyard.
