One of the most important things meditation does is that it reestablishes contact between your inner core and outer existence. Instead of being concerned with what happened in the past or what may happen in the future, you should only concentrate on what is happening right now. The most difficult part about meditating is focus. Our minds have become so used to thinking quickly and multitasking, that it is hard to slow down.

The best way to begin meditating is to get yourself in a comfortable position - either lying down or sitting up.. Your hands should be rested comfortably, palms up. Clear your mind of all thoughts, and breathe normally. Some people like to close their eyes while meditating. Others prefer to leave them open. If you can keep outside distractions from disturbing you, either way is okay.

Concentrating and regulating your breathing will slow down your thoughts and help you to relax and calm your mind. Keep focusing on your breathing and think of nothing else. You should start to feel a sense of well-being in a matter of minutes.

Some people compare meditation to prayer. Spiritual activities such as prayer can also help to restore your soul and relieve stress. If something is going on in your life that you feel is wrong, overwhelming, or just not quite right, it can cause stress. This is the time to meditate to eliminate that stress.

Become one with your inner being. Be aware of your inner signals, urging you to refocus physically and spiritually. If you begin to meditate on a regular basis it will help to greatly reduce your stress level and help to keep your mind clear and free from worry.
