There are few things which are more irritating than reoccurring yeast infections. Just when you thought you'd sorted out the problem and things start to return to some sort of normality, its back. It is one of the most infuriating infections around.
The main reason for recurring infections is that you probably only treated the symptoms, (or one of the symptoms) of the infection, and did not get to the bottom of the problem, the cause. The chances are that as soon as you were relieved of the itchiness and soreness you thought that the problem had gone away. If you keep on treating the symptoms but never find out the cause of the infection, then of course it will keep coming back until you sort it out once and for all.
You need to understand the reason for your infections. They are generally caused by a build up of candida albicans which are present in everybody, although in a healthy body the immune system can keep the numbers at bay. If you have been prescribed with a long running dose of medication such as anti-inflammatory or antibiotic tablets, this can reduce the amount of good bacteria which is in your body. The good bacteria is needed to help control the amount of candida albicans and so if they are reduced the candida albicans can multiply sufficiently to cause yeast infections. This is just one reason for a recurring yeast infection.
If your immune system is not working efficiently this can also be the cause of the numbers of candida albicans to become too great. This may be due to a stressful work or personal situation, feeling run down, and not getting sufficient rest and exercise. A good healthy lifestyle which includes a balanced diet, plenty of sleep and sufficient exercise will help to keep your immune system working properly and the quantity of candida albicans at a controllable level.
It is important to keep the affected area clean and dry at all times. Yeast infections can occur in many different parts of the body, but especially in dark, moist places. This is why they are extremely prevalent in the vagina, the mouth, and between the toes. Make sure that you wash affected areas at least 3 times daily, and always dry between your toes before putting on your socks, to prevent the recurrence in this area.
A healthy diet is also important. It can help to reduce your intake of sugary foods and foods which contain yeast, as this can also help to achieve the necessary balance in your body. The yeast content in beer can have an affect on your yeast infections. Drink plenty of water (water is great for cleansing your body both inside and outside) and herbal tea can also be helpful (especially green tea). By eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, protein from meat and poultry and reducing your intake of milk and dairy products, you can help to prevent any further attacks of yeast infections.
