So, you don't own a home or have space where you can plant trees or go for a stroll. You can still create a Sacred Garden.
If you have a balcony, you're a step ahead, but if not, I'll give you some pointers to help you.
Let's start with those of you who have a balcony. Regardless of the size, it can be turned into a sacred place.
1. Create an entry to the balcony hereafter known as your Sacred Garden. Place a rug in front of the door or a couple of pots of flowers or plants on either side of the door.
2. Gather a variety of flowers pots. They should be different sizes, colors and textures.
3. To prevent an aching back, create an arrangement before you plant. The pots should be clustered in pleasing color combinations, different textures and according to what you plan to plant.
4. A trip to the local nursery will provide you with helpful people who can assist you in choosing the right plants and flowers. Be sure to have small and large leaved plants, along with your color choices.
5. Add a water fountain if you can. If not, a pretty bowl or large shell filled with filtered water can add a water element.
6. Add wind chimes. If you can't attach them to the apartment, many garden centers have stakes designed for this purpose and that will hold a beautiful lantern so that you can add soothing candlelight. These stakes also add elevation and interest.
7. If you are high up in the building and birds and butterflies aren't likely to visit, place silk butterflies and bird attached to sticks into your pots of flowers. This will bring in the idea of nature and add color and texture. If they are suspended on fishing string, they will add movement when they flutter in the breeze.
8. If you are running out of room at this point, instead of trying to jam in another aromatic plant, add an incense holder and burn incense while you meditate.
If you don't have a balcony, set aside a space by a window-plants need light. Your Sacred Garden can be placed around a small rug that marks the area, or even on the corner of the kitchen or bathroom counter. Follow the same ideas presented for the balcony garden only use the rug etc. in its place. Just be sure that the plants and flowers you choose will work well in less light and drier air.
As you see, no one needs to be a landowner to create a Sacred Garden. Use your imagination and put your creative skills to work. You can own a Sacred Garden by the end of the day!
