Approach casually as a way to overcome your fear.

One of the best pick up routines; and certainly the best for someone who is shy is opening lines. You do not need to boldly rush across the room to express interest in the girl. By using this method, you introduce yourself and inject yourself in her conversation. You can offer something you noticed about her, something you overheard it can really be anything. The secret is that you are not approaching her trying to get a date. (well eventually, but not approaching her that way) You are approaching just to talk. She may still reject you, but who cares, if she is so rude as to reject people who just want to talk you are better off without her.
