To meet someone and sustain their interest is sometimes the hardest thing you can do.

You need to be witty and interesting, whilst remaining open and not self absorbed. Listen to what the other person has got to say, and be interactive. By this I mean you need to respond to something they have said with a question about that topic. This will endear them to you a little more. You have taken an interest in something they have said and you are able to find familiar ground with them on that topic.

Doing these sorts of things and knowing how to talk to the opposite sex is the key. Nervousness and being awkward won't get you anywhere instead you need to be funny and confident. If you maintain these levels of confidence throughout you won't go far wrong.
