To Love and Be Loved

What is love? Some people say it is full of mystery, even the words \'it is blind\' is another definition given. There are others that define the feeling as to complex, imaginary, and indefinable. However, no one can really define what this feeling is. Some of us depends it on what they feel and what they experience. It is true anyways. We feel this strong feeling because of the people that make us feel we are important.

In the course of mankind, love has made the world go round. Different stories have been created and different stories have been legendary. Even in movies, whether it is an action, drama, or comedy, there is always affection implied in every situation. The affection for family, friends, and even your boyfriends or girlfriends gives us the will to go on with our everyday life. It makes us feel inspired and alive. It makes our hearts beat fast when they are around, and makes us daydream even in the middle of the class or work.

Depending on what you feel, adoration comes into different varieties. There is the romance which is very deep, intense and unending. This is shared by two people involved in sexual and intimate relationship. Other kinds of adoration are platonic, familial and religious love. These all refer to more or less of a desire, preference and feelings.

On the other hand, people may change their perception about love in a relationship. Sometimes they look at it like it's something that is false and meaningless. Depending on the depth, versatility, and complexity, people stay away from such feeling in order for them not to get hurt. Their notion is always negative towards it because maybe, their loved ones betrayed them. Other factors that may affect the relationship of people are the brutality, jealousy and hatred. Even between brothers, couples, or friends, love fails to survive in their hearts because their hearts are filled with jealousy. These are the truth that mankind sees and feels everyday.

Accordingly, there are four kinds of love. The first type is the Storge, pronounced as Stor-gay, which refers to familial love. This is evident with the love that the parents express toward their children. The second one is the Eros which refers to the desire to draw out what is good, beautiful and true. It is mainly motivated by need. Thus, it often involves the emotional need to elicit physical affection from the one you love. The third one is the friendship love or Philia. This describes the embodiment of everything a true, meaningful friendship represents. The fourth kind is the Agape or the selfless affection for others. It is the kind of affection that Jesus had given us, pure, sacrificing, and not even asking for anything in return.

Everybody wants to love and be loved. However, there are certain things and situations that hinder us from doing so. Hatred, jealousy, and brutality cause us nothing but suffering and regrets so we must not entertain such ideas. Life is beautiful, and we are the ones who are responsible in making our lives more beautiful than ever.
