Online marketing is becoming an effective way to make a decent income from home. Find a good topic people are interested in

This cannot be stressed enough. Create compelling information with a topic that people are going to be interested in. I chose online marketing as my first break into this. With good affiliate programs and a little bit of knowledge and understanding on how to use them effectively, you can have well-scripted advertisements that your readers are going to click on. Snowboarding, stock-trading, sports.....whatever you are interested in and can right relevant content on is what is going to lure people in.

Set up an alternate email address

This is a really basic step. Considering you are going to be signing up for various affiliate programs and forums and blogs and whatever, you really should set up a different email address than you use everyday. Obviously not necessary, but should be considered.

Getting set up with affiliate programs

You have read this far, and I still have your attention, so you are ready to make the next step!! So now that we have conquered our target audience and contact information, we have got to establish our relationships with our respective affiliate programs. There are many programs out there, but I think that there a few you should focus your time on. These would be Google AdSense, Amazon Affiliates, and the eBay Partner Network. eBay is a bit more difficult to get accepted into if you don't have your own website, but it is worth a try anyway.

Of course, these are only a few of the programs that are out there, but I have legitimately earned revenue from these and they are from reputable companies.

Setting up a blog and publishing articles on the web

This is how you are going to get started in this process. First, I would set up a blog that people can follow. You can publish one for free at Blogger.com and it allows you to use your Google Adsense account directly integrated into it. Using companies like Hubpages.com, Gather.com, Digg.com, Squidoo.com and EzineArticles.com are great places to get people to view your traffic and start clicking on your links. Publish your blog with an RSS from Feedburner.com and redirect traffic from these sites to your blog where you can post ads.

Be patient and persistent in the process

Continually look up new opportunities to post your content on the web. You can look into forums where your topic is introduced and post there. Keep up email lists, create a YouTube account documenting your processes. Share good content with others and the traffic will increase.
