Mainly you are looking for a long term solution to not only maintain your rankings, but try to get to number 1 (or at least the top 3). This should be in addition to social bookmarking and other tools that you might use over time. The real key to long term success is slow and steady over time, not only does that look natural to the search engines, it will replenish links that you lose because a site is no longer around or the link is aged by Google and does not really count anymore for much.
