Choosing the Right Keywords For Your Online Marketing Campaign

Now you may be wondering how in the heck are you going to outrank and outperform even half of these sites, right? This is where most people get it all wrong!

In your internet marketing online campaign you may wish to go with the keywords something along the lines of "Colorado lawyer". This keyword has a broad search according to Google figures, of roughly around 50,000 people a month, which is a lot of people!

However, again, its not quite as straightforward as this. If we check out the competition - the number of other websites that are ranking in Google for this particular keyword, then we will find it to be 1.5 million, at the time of writing. Now you may be wondering how in the heck are you going to outrank and outperform even half of these sites, right?

Have little concern here, this is where most people get it all wrong!

Its not about the figures you see in Google telling you how many other sites are trying to rank for these keywords. Forget that! Once you know how to rank your own site, you will realize that the most important aspect to consider is the top 10 to 20 sites that are indeed ranking for "Colorado lawyer".

As a side note, the reason I mention Google at the expense of the other search engines, particularly Yahoo! Search and Bing.com is that Google commands around 66% of all searches carried out on the internet. Yahoo around 17% and Bing.com about 11%. Ask.com only has around 3% of all searches. You can see why so much emphasis is placed on ranking in Google search, right?

If we have a look at the top sites in Google for those keywords then we see that at this time the first page is splattered with websites that have a Google Page Rank of some place around 3 to 6. This means that to rank on the first page of Google for the keywords "Colorado lawyer" is going to take some doing. More about Google Page Rank in the next article.

I suggest we leave these particular keywords well-alone, at least for now. Let's try and find something a little easier to rank highly for, shall we?
