So you have picked a niche and a whole load of keywords to fill your site with. You have read somewhere that Google no longer gives weight to on page factors when ranking sites. What do you do?

The truth is due to spammers Google is slowly giving more weight to off page optimisation factors however experts, including myself still believe on page optimisation still plays a massive part in search engine optimisation. In fact according to research it still holds around 44 percent weight.

So now we know this what are some of the most important on page factors to consider? Where do we put those highly targeted keywords in order to make our pages rise up the rankings? Well there are some elements of on page search optimisation that are more important than others.

The Title tag - This is a very important part of your page and there are a couple of things to remember. Your main keyword, the keyword that will drive the most traffic to your site should be placed in the title tag and as near to the beginning as possible. Your title tag should be the first line of code after your head tag and should attempt to draw in customers.

Most people use CSS to structure their websites and this helps us create headings or h tags that allow us to create relevance on our pages. The tags usually go from 1 - 6 and allow us to separate different information. Your head tags should also include your keywords as above with the more important keywords being closer to the top of the page.

It is common knowledge that your keywords need to make up part of your main text but there are a few best practices that should be observed. You should try to use your keyword variation nearer the top of the article. Also bold 1 or 2 of the keywords to help create emphasis, you could also try linking to relevant, helpful external sources using your keyword as an anchor.

Your probably wondering when I am going to mention the meta description and keyword tags, well I aren't because the truth is they hold very little weight in terms of SEO, this is due to black hat SEO's and keyword stuffers. Don't try to worry about these areas too much, maybe add a meta description to enable you to create to look and feel of your ranking description.
