As you may know that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has two separate stages, on-page SEO and off-page SEO. While off page SEO is a tedious task to almost people, on page is fairly easy if you know how to do. In order to optimize one page for one keyword, I usually spend one to two hours. The results are always inspiring. So, what are the main tasks of on page optimization? Here they are:
- Optimize your URL
- Optimize your title
- Optimize your heading lines
- Optimize the content
I will show you the details of each step as below.
1. Optimize your URL.
This task is very easy and can be done without any technical skill. Simply you put your keywords in to the URL. For example, you are optimizing for "how to make money free online", you should have an URL like this howtomakemoneyonline.com (.org,.net or whatever you like). Many SEO experts said that search engines like Google, Yahoo do not put much weight on URL but others insist that this factor is still very important. In my opinion, having a keyword rich URL will never hurt you.
2. Optimize your title
This task is simple too. You simply put your keyword into title tag in html documents (marked with
3. Optimize your heading lines
The heading lines (include in

4. Optimize the content.
Content is king! You have heard that million times before and me too. The first requirement to your content is unique. If you copy your content from another source on the Internet, the search engines will consider it as "duplicate content". As a result, you will never rank well on the search engine result page (SERP).
So now you have unique content but in order to rank well on SERP, that content must be optimized for your chosen keyword. This means your content must contain the keyword which you are trying to optimize. According to many SEO experts, the keyword amount/content ratio at 1~4% is good for on page SEO. If your ratio is more than 4% then search engines will consider your site as keyword stuffing. If the ratio is less than 1%, search engines will not consider your site is about the keyword you are optimizing.
The above things are very basic but important for ranking well on SERP. If you cannot do those above tasks well, don't ever dream about of staying at #1 to #4 of SERP.
