Profit Lance Internet Marketing - 3 Tips in Getting Your Website Listed in Google

Google is perhaps the pre-eminent search engine on the internet today. Most websites get their traffic from Google referrals, so it's no wonder that anyone with a website would want to get indexed by Google. However, a website may be live and around for several months without once appearing on Google's list.

The most straightforward way to get your website listed in Google is to submit your URL to Google. When you submit to Google directly, you only need to give them your home page URL. Their crawler will find the rest of your web pages. Google adds new sites and updates their list regularly. However, not all submitted URLs are added to their index. Another thing is that even if it were to be included in the Google index, there's no telling how long it will take for your site to appear there.

A second method - perhaps not as straightforward but possibly a surer way to get into Google - is to get a site that is already listed by Google to link to your site. This way when Google re-crawls that web site, it will find the link to your site, whereupon it will crawl and index your site as well. How do you go about finding a site to link to yours? One good way is to go to your competitors' websites and look at who links to their sites. Then you can go to your competitors' links and ask them to link to your site as well. They may ask you to link their site to yours - you know, tit for tat, or in other words, reciprocity.

A third method is to submit your site to the Open Directory Project. This is a web directory of internet resources. You can compare it to a humongous reference library; that's why it arranges web sites according to category. Open Directory Project is not a search engine and so it is quite selective as to the websites it decides to include in its directory. However, if your website manages to get accepted into ODP, that automatically gets you into their partner sites such as Google, AOL Search, Yahoo, Netscape and many others. Again, how long it takes before your website gets into the search engines is anyone's guess. It can take anywhere from two weeks to several months. However, it will get to the search engines sooner or later.

Meanwhile, as you're waiting for your site to be indexed, you can use the time to submit to other search engines such as MSN and Altavista, find reciprocal links to your website, and create more content. Before you know it, the visitors will start coming in.
