Long term goals is what you should be focusing on if you are trying to make money online or launch an online business. Too bad so few people do, they spend their time chasing the 'quick money' and lose focus of their long term goals.

In internet marketing just like traditional businesses your long term goal should be branding. You have to establish a brand, a piece of your markets mind. You have to control that piece, creating a unique experience that you are recognized for.

That branding is a long term focus. It should be your goal from the start. SEO to online marketing is like branding to traditional marketing. If you own your market's key searches you will own that segment for as long as you own the SERP spot.

SEO can be flaky but if you follow fundamental SEO techniques and don't do those high risk tricks that can get you banned by the search engines, you will be ruling your niche and your keywords in no time.

Remember that SEO is a long term marketing strategy, but that's a good thing, because if you compete is this long term arena, (so few do) you will be ahead of the back. Some tips you can use for your long term SEO efforts are:

1. Have a niche. What is your business or products main niche? Do you fully understand it? Niches want only one thing, if you can find out what that one thing is, you will dominate your niche.

2. Build your website around that niche. Have focus for our website and business. You cannot rank for every single keyword, so choose 10, and build your website and product/business around those 10.

3. Persistent is magical. Just like in life, if you keep walking in the right direction one day you will arrive. If you keep putting out quality content, and getting appropriate backlinks, you will rule your search engine.
