How the Past Has Shaped Our Views of Sexuality Today

Whenever we look around us, we can see, hear and feel about sex and sexuality. We cannot really say if this is a totally good or bad thing. Many of us can endlessly argue about this topic and get to final compromise. For many people, to talk about sex and sexuality today is still taboo. For some, these two things have major places in the world and in everyday life.

One thing for sure, though, our views of sexuality today is influenced by our past. As with everything else, history plays a major role as to how things end in the present. The same principle applies to sexuality. The freedom of sexuality today can be traced back to how we view it in the past. Some call it improvement while some view it as worse conditions.

In the old days, the mere talk of sex can get you shunned by society. A teenager who explicitly shows he is knowledgeable about the idea of sex and sexuality can bring him straight to the detention room. While lovers have sexual contacts in the old days as well, being vocal about it something that is not accepted by society. You can talk about sex and sexuality as if they are dirty deeds and ideas that corrupt the mind and some would even be hush-hush about these ideas even if they are part of human nature.

The old means of handling sex and sexuality of both men and women have a lot to do of sexuality today. The increasing recognition of rights and the higher level of encouragement for ideas contribute to sexuality today. Many people feel liberated when they can openly talk abut sex and such things. They are pushed both by history as well as culture that sex and sexuality today are nothing to be ashamed about. People are also more vocal about their feelings, thus, the talk of sex is no longer something that you keep in low tones and voices. The higher the sense of freedom, the better we get in touch not just with our sexuality today but also with ourselves in general. Now, many of us do not even attempt to create covers and facades. We can now be open to what we are, what we like, what we desire and what we do in and out of the bedroom. This view of sexuality in the modern times is fully embraced by most of us.

The past has indeed shaped our views of sexuality today. We have fought for our rights and our freedom before and the concept of sexuality today has gained from it. We feel more free to express our thoughts and ideas on sex, on relationships, on what physically pleasures us and even more free to express our understanding of our sexuality today so that we can be satisfied.

While many of us differ from how we handle our sexualities and the ideas of sex, we must all revel in the fact that our levels of understanding the human sexuality has improved over the years. Be it an effect of more open views or simply a more liberal culture, we are definitely benefiting from it.
