a. Dynamic HTML (DHTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for presentation.

b. Extensible Markup Language (XML) for the manipulation and display of data

c. Document Object Model (DOM) for interaction and dynamic display of data

d. Javascript to bring all the functions together.

One example of an AJAX application is Google Maps, it allows the user to manipulate and view the map.

2. Web 2.0 Programming - it is mostly known as "social bookmarking". It is the next level of the World Wide Web experience. With its user-friendly online interface it gives the power and the reliability of the user to give users more powerful tools. Web 2.0 is like bookmarking or adding favorite to a website in a web browser such as Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Examples of web 2.0 sites are: Del.icio.us, Blinklist, Blogmarks, Furl, Kaboodle.

The primary idea of social bookmarking is, that when several people bookmark a website because they find it useful, then your sites ranking will move up because there is a ranking system on the social networking sites like the samples listed above.

3. CGI (Common Gateway Interface) - it is a method by which a server can obtain or send data to databases, documents and other programs. CGI uses Perl as a programming language. Main function of CGI is to respond to the users or the clients by analyzing the contents and determining an appropriate response to the users. CGI plays a vital role in websites such as Yahoo, Facebook or Wikipedia.

Web programming usually tackles about the function of the website, how to customize the website and gave the assessment that you're website will be user friendly to anyone who visits it.
