This type of site can have past, present and future information about everything. A website that big could get loads of hits and visitors. All you need is a bunch of webmasters constantly uploading page after page about all topics.

Horizontal content web sites are grown with the use of long tail keywords. They use an algorithm that finds hundreds even thousands of these and create pages for each one. Then you can direct a product of service to every page. This kind of goes against all the expects who say that keeping your web site focused on a particular niche is the best way to go. But I would not worry to much about your niche sites just yet. But it does make you wonder about how competitive the lower end of search results will become. Since long tail keywords are good for small websites to get their foot in the door how will this effect their web traffic in the future?

Sure a well established web site may have a good shot at this but there is a down side to it. This will require lots of SEO and it would be very time consuming to optimize each page for best search results. Some pages may do well while others will not get found. So there is a good chance that the big companies that will attempt this will spend big bucks one building links to each in every page. Not something a typical webmaster can do.

You might want to start this on a small scale and make it a part of your search engine optimization before the fat cats dominate them all. The internet will only become more competitive and that means you need to step up your efforts. You do not have to have a site about everything just all things that is related to your niche. Start with one and build on it until you own the whole subject. Become the authority when someone search for any information that similar to your site.

Since there are new niche ideas popping up all the time their is no need to be to concerned about horizontal content websites. No matter how much a person can type they can never really cover everything known to mankind. There will always be a window of opportunity open for you if you keep your eyes on the latest trends.
