First you need to decide if you are going to host the website yourself, if you are, personally I would recommend using bluehost.com as they literrally have step by step video's and how to guides for everything. If you are just starting out it makes sense to have as much help as possible, as otherwise if you get stuck your project goes on hold until you can find someone who can help you.

Next you need to decide your domain name. I personally normally try to use domain names that include the keywords which you are looking to optimise the website for. For some reason Google really likes keyword rich domain names, which can really help get your website off to a good start.

Next install wordpress. Using bluehost, this literally takes a minute as they have an auto installation script. You now have a live website!

From here, you need to choose the wordpress theme which you wish to use. Personally I like the theme forest templates, as they are fairly well put together. There are literally thousands of themes out there to choose from. The themes are simply configured to make sure that they are optimised for the best possible chance of success.

Next, you need to make sure that your posts are setup in the correct format, I personally use the all in one seo plugin, which takes care of that!

Now, you need to begin creating content. This can be a laborious process, however there are some ways to make this a little more easy. Start by writing about things which you are interested in, enjoy etc. Next you can submit that same content to article websites and make sure that put a link into those articles back to your website.

Social bookmark you site, social bookmark the articles which you have also put out there.

Submit your site to directories, submit you articles to directories.

Build backlinks through forum posting and comments on other people's blogs. If you are writing comments which are relevant most people don't mind adding your comments.

This then creates a nice start for your website, and will definitely make sure that you are getting indexed and it is likely that if you continue to add content to your website for a period of time then you will definitely get noticed by the search engines.

In addition you can create web 2.0 properties which point back to your site as well, then social bookmark, build links to these sites, and also submit to directories.

Over a period of time you will gradually generate a nice linking structure that will equal both traffic and revenue!
