I encourage clients to use web tools that have been developed for the masses and are free online. Of course they need to meet my criteria for security, user-friendly functions, and multi functions-- it needs to have the ability to meet the needs of different users. One of my favorites is the Google Calendar.

I encourage clients to use web tools that have been developed for the masses and are free online. Of course they need to meet my criteria for security, user-friendly functions, and multi functions-- it needs to have the ability to meet the needs of different users. One of my favorites is the Google Calendar. It's free and it has a staff of Google developers behind it. Here's the top 3 reasons I recommend it to my clients.
1. Not Just One Calendar. When you set up your calendar in Google... set up two! Set up a private calendar of family and personal dates. The second Calendar can hold your business appointments and events. You can keep your personal calendar private and either keep your business calendar private or share it with everyone. To save the stress of referring back and forth to the different calendars, they both can be displayed in one view!
2. Google Calendar, A Website Solution. Do you need to display your business events online? The Google Calendar is the answer. It works well if you need to maintain a class schedule, show speaking dates, or show clients appointment dates and times you have open. Penny Pearlman, author of "Pretty Smart: Lessons From Our Miss Americas" (pennypearlman.com) shows her speaking engagements online.
3. You're Invited! Using the Google Calendar together with Gmail carries a strong 1-2 punch. If you send an email to confirm a client appointment or any date you can choose "Add Event Invitation." When you send your email the event is added to your Google Calendar. Holding an event where you want to keep track of guests' responses? Your Google Calendar even allows you to maintain a guest list and track RSVPs.
How could you use a Google Calendar? Share your appointment times and availability online? Show your scheduled speaking events? Hold an event and invite your contacts? It's easy and free, so have fun with it!
