We all have seen many websites but have you ever asked yourself what colors attract visitors and which may repel them away?

I am not talking about excessive tables that fall apart or extent so wide you need to scroll to the far right side to read any text. We all have seen strange text fonts that if they are not on your computer look like wing dings. Wing dings fonts are those strange shapes that you need a decoder ring to understand. Let us not forget mind bending background graphics or animation backgrounds that can make you sea sick as they move up and down or left to right. Those sites have scared away many people and I myself avoid them completely.

I am talking about 5% of the male population. This small but powerful group of men that could be your prospective clients and many websites do not even know they exists. First I need to give you a quick science lesson. Visible light for us humans consists of seven colors. Now when you combine any combination of these colors to create millions and millions of visible colors, but all those possibilities start with the seven colors that are Red, orange, green, Yellow, indigo, Blue and violet. These colors are known as the visible spectrum. These 7 colors can be seen after a rainfall when you look at a rainbow.

Now getting back to your website and I mentioned earlier about 5% of the male population. As you may have guessed I talking about color blindness.

According to Wikipedia color blindness specifically Deuteranomaly is caused by a similar shift in the green retinal receptors and is by far the most common type of color vision deficiency. This form of color blindness mildly affects the colors red and green hue discrimination in 5% of males. So when you do the math of 10,000 male visitors there is a possibility that your website could affect 500 sales. Would you really want to lose out on that market if you picked the wrong colors for your buy now button or highlighted text. If you have your web pages created by a web designer ask them if they know what colors to avoid and why. If they are unaware of color blindness tell them to refer to Wikipedia or contact Ophthalmologist so you do not miss out any opportunities the Internet market has to offer. If you have any red or green banners, backgrounds or text you might think about doing a minor re-vamping of your website.

I hope this article has helped you in deciding what colors to choose for your website.
